|     OK, OK, OK -- So What Is Going On Here ????? .. What is this reference to a "modular" home all about?? |
|     Fundamentally: There is a primal clash of dreams vs. available $$$$$. I simply don't want to have to carry a soul-draining mortgage for this home. The unofficial feasibility study for the dome came in with an estimate that was much higher than I had hoped for. And it was for the shell of the dome only - without any of the architectual features that would make it more interesting. Neither did it include any of the construction inside that makes it a home (i.e., plumbing, electric, walls, fixtures and the like). So-o-o-o. Without completely giving up on the dream of a dome home - albeit, a very much scaled down version - I'm also scurrying around the country side exploring other possibilities. I came across a modular home builder here in the area that I really like. Both the quality of their model home and the calibar of the staff seem excellent - so I'm researching the possibilities of a home build by this company. By the way, I just learned some new terminology. A "modular" house is the equivalent of a site built home and is integrated into a permanent, solid foundation - it is just built in a controlled environment and brought to the site. A "manufactured" home is also built in a controlled environment, but not to the same specs and retains its steel undercarriage and maybe even the wheels.   |
