| The Dome's Appearance .. Surfaces are slightly textured and uneven. .. Beefy wooden doors and window frames. .. 2nd floor supported by wooden beams and planks. .. Front door has a large stained glass window in door and in transom above. .. LR porch door has a large stained glass window in transom above door. |
| The Dome's Construction .. The front entry is at ground level; wheel-chair accessible (all doors a min. 3 ft. wide). .. The dome's basic shape: a hemi-sphere w/ a rectangular utility room attached. .. Outside dimensions: footprint radius = 25 ft., height = 25 ft. .. Inside dimensions: floor space radius = 24 ft., height = 24 ft. .. The "ring" (foundation) supports go down into the ground below the "constant thermal level" (CTL) to take advantage of the Earth's moderating influence on the shell's thermal mass. The inside cement shell is thermally isolated from the outside cement shell. .. 6 inches of cement/rebar in lower inside shell wall. .. 4 inches of cement/rebar in upper inside shell ceiling. .. 6 inches of foam insulation. .. Coat of cement/rebar outside the "airform". .. Window "augments": M-BR//BR3 (1), BR2//BR4 (1), Kit (1), DR (1 large bay), M-Bath//Bath2 (1 large bay), Balcony (door to upper deck) .. Flat cutouts: front entry area (front door w/ transom and sidelights, 4 windows) LR back porch area (1 lg Fr. doors, 1 sm Fr. doors, 2 transoms). .. Cement slab (floor) above outside ground level to minimize H2O seepage under it. .. Special underground drainage area built outside dome on uphill side to redirect runoff. .. Lip surrounding dome above porch level to redirect rain, feed cisterns. .. Porch access: Ramp to front porch, steps to back porch. .. Deck over Utility Rm: door from balcony, steps to ground level. .. Dome Top Lookout: Built-in steps up to top from upper deck. Access to dome cap and the Vent-i-lite. | The Dome's Outside Infrastructures .. Initial water source: standard well - approximately 350 ft. deep. .. Subsequent water source: Cistern system for rain-collection in garage. collects from dome, barn/garage and cow barn. gravity feed into dome, barn/garage, cow barn. inline water purification equipment where needed. overflow and cleanout valves inline to cisterns. .. Outside water faucets - provisions for freeze-protection. .. Outside shower - summer baths under a canopy of flowering vines - fun !! .. Initial waste containment: standard septic system. .. Subsequent waste recycling: Blackwater treatment/filtering ponds. grey water recycled to gardens and toilet. .. Initial electrical power: standard connection to the "grid". primary breaker box located on outside pole. secondary breaker box located inside utility room. secondary breaker box located inside garage. secondary breaker box located inside cowbarn. secondary breaker box located by well. ..
