THE  DRIVEWAY
      (con't. from  Page 1)

That poor old pipe was falling apart and the water flow had eroded the drive so badly that I no longer could get Vanna White (that's my old Ford van) across where the culvert lay.

With the back hoe,  a trough  for the new culvert pipe was dug.  We rolled the pipe into the hole and the stream immediately showed its approval by flowing thru it.  The pipe was buried and, VOILA!!, I could drive into the drive again.

Next, four huge dump truck loads of a sand/clay mix were brought in to fill in and raise the drive.

Thus finished Part I of the project.

Part II dealt with shoring up the walls of the creek where it meets the new culvert.

We used 60-pound bags of ready-mix cement as large bricks.   I put the bags into the back hoe's bucket.  Hopping up into the back hoe,  I lowered the bags of cement into the hole.

Then the back hoe's owner stacked them around the edges - it will look really good when it is finished.

We have about 100 more bags to position along the creek bed.

(Please note:    I  actually did operate the back hoe  -  fun !!)
