Getting a collection of MONSTER plants ...
Here is a glimpse of my makeshift greenhouse - the sunroom on the end of the old cottage at Possum Hollow. There are 2 huge skylights built into that slanting roof. I use an old oil-filled electric radiator to keep the room warm - it seems to work really well.
These are some of my "living treasures". I have plants that came from my Mother - they are over 50 years old! There are also plants from friends at work, places that I have lived , places that I have visited, discards found in trash cans ..... One of my dreams is to have a real green house someday!! ( above pictures taken January 2005 )
My neighbor over-wintered his 3 his Birds-of-Paradise in the green house. Come Spring with its warm weather, they were ferried back to their honored place in his yard. Eventually, they will get about 20 feet tall! UPDATE: We recently repotted these monsters - out of the 3 original plants, he now has 13 ---- after they settle in some, they will be going to a local auction!
... heading on down the road to its summer home ... ( above 2 pictures taken March 2004 )
This is my neighbor's first "monster" plant ....
